Multidisciplinary Teams
Elder mistreatment is a complex and nuanced phenomenon, crossing medical, legal, social, financial, and familial domains. Case response and redress often benefit from the guidance of inter-sectorial professionals. Elder abuse multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) are a best practice approach to intervention. MDTs draw upon the unique perspectives and expertise of members who meet regularly to review cases and discuss options for intervention. MDTs vary in scope, process, and composition but may include health care practitioners, mental health services, adult protective services, long-term care ombudsmen, victim services, civil legal aid, prosecutors, and financial services providers.
